When PMD reached out to me and asked if I would like to try their “at-home” PMD (Personal Microderm) tool, I immediately said yes. I’ve struggled with my skin ever since moving into my teens and as an adult growing up, so trying out new products and tools that promise and aim to fix so much is a VERY tempting… I mean, not having to leave my house to have a treatment? Perfect for me.
WHAT EXACTLY IS PMD?
“Personal Microderm is a revolutionary at-home skincare tool that provides the same brilliant results as professional, in-office microdermabrasion treatments.”
It combines spinning disc technology with a “perfectly calibrated vacuum suction” to leave your skin feeling and looking fresh and radiant by exfoliating away your dead skin cells from the surface of the skin; doing so stimulates new cell growth (think of it as a new layer of skin) which in time, reveals glowing, youthful skin. Once doing this procedure skincare products can penetrate the skin “20x” deeper, maximising the benefits of your chosen skincare products (basically, the best time to feed your skin with all those lotions and potions is AFTER using this tool). The suction of the PMD is “the power behind effective microdermabrasion” as it increases circulation and triggers your skins natural healing process; boosting collagen and elastin leaving your skin firm, fresh and radiant. They suggest its used weekly to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, blemishes and enlarged pores.
HOW TO USE
BEFORE TREATMENT PREPARATION: The tool is extremely easy to use, you know me… I don’t like anything too overly complicated and this was more than capable to understand. When you receive your PMD, it comes with plenty of information including a disc to watch, follow and learn more about the following procedure. It’s important to follow all of the steps shown on the disc and in the information booklets, along with testing the tool on the back of your hand to get a feel for it first.
Ensure that the tool is connected to the power and set up with your chosen disc and plastic cap (it must be screwed on tight else there will be no suction) and that your skin is thoroughly cleansed and completely dry before use.
DURING TREATMENT: Pull your skin tight with your free hand so the disc can glide smoothly across the surface of your skin. Use straightening motions from your cheek in the direction towards your ear.
Make sure you’re moving the tool at all times, don’t stop in one spot and I recommend that you don’t go over the same spot twice in one sitting. Your skin may look a little bit red straight after use, but don’t be alarmed; this won’t last and the skin will regenerate quickly.
IMMEDIATELY AFTER TREATMENT: Wash any dead skin off your face (not everybody gets as much dead skin as you think though), dry and use a calming toner to neutralise the PH balance in your skin followed by a moisturiser. Let your skin recover for 6-7 days before using it again.
CLEANING: Cleaning your tool is extremely important, its easy enough to do by removing the cap and cleaning it with rubbing alcohol or an antibacterial soap followed by cleaning the filter with warm water and allowing it to dry completely before re-using it.
PLEASE NOTE: You should not use any facial peel products 48 hours before or after using this tool due to skin sensitivity. Keep away from your eyes!
HOW I GOT ON WITH PMD
I’ve been using PMD for a number of months now, 3-4 weeks at a time (once a week) with a few months break afterwards in-between bulk treatments. I did notice dead skin immediately after using the products and once I washed it away it was clear to see how visibly smooth and radiant my skin looked. Along side doing this myself, my boyfriend participated as well and had the same results. It made me excited and super eager to carry on using the tool… and so the week long wait began in-between treatments.
After using the home microdermabrasion tool for four weeks in a row there was a remarkable difference in my skin from using it the first time. You know my background if you’ve read my blog posts over the last few months and how conscious I am of my acne scars and skin blemishes… Although this didn’t massively reduce my skin blemishes and scars I did feel like it made the whole texture of it much smoother, softer and brighter. Making it much easier to cover them up with makeup as they’re now not as raised from the skin. Although I was extremely excited to try this product I was still a little bit hesitant about it being rough and hard on my delicate skin but I found it so easy to understand, use and get in the routine of using it weekly. I have definitely noticed how well my skin reacts to my skin care products immediately after using this though which is an added bonus as they work better than normal.
The tool costs £135.00 and is definitely a high-end skincare product to invest in if you think its something you’ll get on well with and get your money’s worth if you’ll use it regularly. It can be purchased directly from PMD here.
I’d love to know what your favourite skincare tool or treatment is in the comments below!
