Whenever I’ve done blog posts on new makeup removers I’m currently using in the past (that are typically cleansers) I’ve always mentioned how I much prefer to use a separate eye makeup remover to the full face cleanser I’m using, even if it it suitable for eyes (which it usually is). It’s mostly down to personal preference since I really dislike the feeling of the usual cleansers I use on my eyes, if it works for you then thats great, but it doesn’t for me.
I’ve not wrote any product reviews on something that only targets eye makeup for such a long time, and that’s because for the last three years or so I’ve been using the same one from H&M (you can read here) or the trusty micellar water on a cotton pad method. UNTIL, I stumbled across this MicellAIR Oil-Free Micellar Gel specifically for removing eye & lip makeup. Perfect. I don’t usually get drawn in by eye makeup removers since I’ve been content with what I was using for the last few years but everything about this jumped out at me, so I had to break my skincare spending ban and pick it up (spoiler alert, it was on offer in SuperDrug for a whopping £1.75).
Firstly, the packaging is a clear 125ml bottle with Nivea’s branding on but the product inside is what caught my eye. IT’S GEL. I know there are 101 skincare products with gel-like texture out there on the market but I’ve never felt like I needed to try one more than this. If there was ever a product that looked refreshing, simple and delicate – then its this one.
This MicellAIR Oil-Free Micellar Gel is simply described as a product that effectively and gently removes eye makeup (also suitable for use on lips) whilst hydrating and caring for the eye area. It’s an oil-free formula with micellar technology that leaves you with 0% residue without rubbing or rinsing, so of course I just had to put it to the test. As somebody who chooses wisely when putting anything near my eyes since I had a nasty reaction once in college leaving me with two swollen eye-lids, everything that Nivea claim the MicellAIR gel does, is convincing, reassuring and exactly what I need it to do.
HOW I USE IT
It’s fairly straight forward – the way we use almost all of our makeup removers: I pop a pea sized amount onto a cotton pad, put it over my eye and let it soak for around 10-20 seconds (sometimes longer if I have the time) and then swipe away… repeat for the other eye and same for the lips too – it’s great removing liquid lipsticks.
WHAT DO I THINK?
It won’t be a surprise to you if you’ve already read the title of this post… which I presume you have, that this eye makeup remover has become my GO-TO product when it comes to my eyes. It’s restored my faith in finding the perfect eye product again since before I was only “content” with what I was using, in fear that I wouldn’t get on with something new.
I now use this eye makeup remover every time I take off my makeup and it’s not let me down once. Everything that describes the product is what it is, and how it works. It’s quick and easy to use whilst comfortable at the same time on such a sensitive area of your face. After applying the cotton pad with the pea sized amount of product onto my eye and letting it soak in, I swipe away once and almost everything has gone. I do admit, it sometimes takes a second swipe BUT it’s probably because I hadn’t left it on long enough to soak. It’s important to leave it for a little bit of time before swiping else it will take too much rubbing to remove your makeup, especially when mascara is a tough product as it is to remove.
The Nivea MicellAIR Oil Free Micellar Gel removes all my eye makeup including any remaining eyelash glue that is typically left behind from using false eyelashes with no fuss, no issues and NO REACTIONS (hallelujah). It’s become my go-to and my only trusted eye makeup remover (amongst the ones I used before which I haven’t reached for since). If you’re on the look out for a new eye makeup remover or just fancy tryin’ something new, then take my word and pick this up… It comes HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by yours truly, tell ya’ mum, ya’ nan and everybody else in town.
WHERE CAN I BUY IT?
Don’t buy too much ’cause I need to keep my own stash topped up too BUT so far I’ve seen this stocked in store and online in SuperDrug & Boots but since Nivea is stocked in most leading supermarkets I presume its available there too.
SuperDrug (currently) £1.75
Like always, I’d love to know if you pick this up and what you think to it too!
Lots of Love, Debra-Bow xxx
